All of Doctor Who from the Start

Some of you may know I like to “do voices.” Since I was a child, my brothers and I would always act out stories, films or TV series. My speciality was of course, Doctor Who. It’s a matter of personal pride that my brother Jim, who has very little interest in our show, can spout “This woman can rot in one of Saladin’s prison cells until her hair turns white before I’ll trade with the man that killed my friends!” at a second’s notice. The younger brothers, the twins, will often look across the room in a moment of silence and drop the “Bitey!” bomb. This is something Elizabeth Sladen’s husband, Brian Miller, playing the tramp in Deep Breath says off-handedly but which caused untold amusement in our house. When I was growing up in the 90s, I wasn’t quite sure that other people as weird as this existed until I went to a fan event at the Blackpool Exhibition and heard a fellow fan trying to find his friends in the dark corridors, calling casually “Robot, rooo-bot!” in the style of Chub. Yes! Other people did that too. In recent years, William Hartnell’s drying up at the close of The Space Museum Part One was something Andy (Twin Brother B) and I re-enacted far too many times than is good for a person when we lived together. “And it’s so shimple!” “How simple, Doctor?” Yes, so shimple!”

During lockdown, with extra time on my hands and an iPad at the ready, I embarked on a mission to re-create All of Doctor Who from the Start! In the last three days, I’ve managed to film and edit together Seasons One and Two available at the links below. The videos are hopefully short and sweet: Season One is four minutes long! As I create more, I’ll add the appropriate links to this article. I’m hoping to do the lot, new series too! If you have a favourite era, I very much hope that I do it justice and that some of the lines you’ve always laughed at, mimicked or remembered fondly get a look-in. This is made with deep love and fondness. I hope, in these troubling teams, you can feel a bit of that too.
